Vernon Futsal

We’re excited to kick off our upcoming futsal season at the Vernon Futsal League! With incredible interest from our community, all available spots for this season have already been filled. However, don't worry if you missed the registration window—there’s still a chance to get in on the action by joining our waitlist!

What is the Vernon Futsal?

Our futsal  is an indoor version of soccer played with smaller teams (5 vs. 5), smaller nets, and a more fast-paced game. It's designed to give players a unique and dynamic soccer experience that builds teamwork, agility, and strategy in a fun and non competitive environment. We aim to create a welcoming space where players of all levels can enjoy the sport, improve their skills, and stay active year-round.

Structure

The current season will run from November 2nd to March 29th, with games scheduled every Saturday evening at 7:30 PM at Priest Valley Gym (located behind the Vernon Recreation Centre). Each game lasts 90 minutes, with a short warm-up and half-time. The futsal setup is similar to our outdoor soccer league, but with a few twists to accommodate the indoor environment:

  • Teams: Given the number of players registered, we’ll be playing 5v5 (including a goalie) with rotating substitutes.
  • Substitutions: Each team will have 5 active players and 4 substitutes. Substitutions will rotate frequently to ensure everyone gets fair playing time. We want to keep the game flowing, so regular subbing keeps things fresh and fun!
  • Kick-ins: Instead of throw-ins like in outdoor soccer, we’ll use kick-ins to restart play. The ball must be stationary when kicked, and the red lines on the gym floor will mark our boundaries.
  • Goalie Area: The goalie area will be marked by the three-point line on the basketball court. While our goals are a bit larger than standard futsal regulation nets, the focus is on a friendly yet competitive game that encourages skill development and teamwork.
  • No Referees: Just like our outdoor league, futsal will be self-officiated. Players are expected to demonstrate respect, fairness, and good sportsmanship throughout each match. After all, we’re all here for the love of the game!

With four futsal balls at your disposal, there will be plenty of opportunity for quick warm-ups before each match. As with our outdoor season, we prioritize having fun while respecting the game, and we’ll make adjustments as needed to ensure fairness for everyone.

A Growing League

Though we currently only have enough players for two teams and one game each Saturday, we’re excited to grow the league. Once we get rolling and build momentum, we may add more teams and adjust the structure. This could potentially involve changing the schedule or start times, but we’ll keep everyone informed as we grow.

In the spirit of keeping things balanced and enjoyable, we’ll shuffle teams before each game. Players will line up and be assigned to "Team 1" or "Team 2" on game day. We’ll avoid having the same players “randomly” ending up on the same team each week—yes, we know how it goes! So please refrain from pre-arranging teams before the game to ensure everyone gets a fair chance to compete.

Shin Guards and Indoor Shoes

To ensure the safety of all players, shin guards are mandatory. We also require clean, indoor shoes to be worn in the gym. This means no outdoor shoes at all—please change into your gym shoes when you arrive to keep the playing surface in good condition and prevent slips or accidents.

Waitlist: Your Chance to Join the Action

If you missed the registration deadline, there’s still hope! Join the Vernon Futsal League waitlist. As spots open up, we’ll pull from the waitlist to fill them. Our goal is to get as many players involved as possible, so being on the waitlist gives you the best shot at playing. We’ll notify you if a spot becomes available, and if the league expands in future seasons, you’ll have a priority option to register early.

Looking Ahead

We’ve had a fantastic response to our outdoor soccer season and we’re looking to carry that same energy into the futsal season. This league is a great way to stay active during the colder months while playing a fast-paced, exciting version of the game we all love. If things continue to grow, we’ll consider creating more structured league setups with multiple teams and even more competitive action. Stay tuned for updates as we explore new options!

In the meantime, we’re grateful for the overwhelming support and enthusiasm from all our players. Whether you’re joining us for futsal or waiting for the spring outdoor season, we appreciate your dedication to keeping the game alive in Vernon. Let’s keep the momentum going and make this a memorable futsal season!

For any questions, feel free to reach out to us—we’re here to help. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the court!
